One of the moments that most people would really love to preserve is the events on their wedding day; couples will usually hire a professional digital wedding photographer to capture the most important day of their lives. Many couples have DVD's made of their day, which are great for some special moments but you can't beat a traditional photo. Most wedding photographers have assistants so they can create a wedding album that will be memorable but if you want to take pictures of a friend's wedding, who will help you? This article highlights a few basic techniques and styles for anyone who wants to capture a friend or family members wedding using a digital camera.
Firstly, if you want to take a picture of the couple or any other guest, make sure that the background is good and the shot will not be too crowded. Often when there is a good background there are just too many people in the shot, so if this is the situation, just try and capture a nice head and shoulders shot of the couple.
Although you don't always think about it at the time, try to ensure those wedding guests wearing spectacles either take them off or provide you with a semi-profile shot. If you are shooting into the light, remember to compensate and increase the aperture otherwise the couple (or guests) will appear dark in the image.
Where possible, try to capture shots that are natural and candid as these always look so natural when viewed later; one way to do this is to use the cameras optical zoom. With digital wedding photography always remember to be ready for the shot as it saves people posing.
All your efforts will be wasted if you forget to have fresh batteries or carry enough memory for your digital camera to take every image from the day. Professional digital slr cameras start at 6 mega pixels and very few compacts are now below that so your card will need to be a minimum of one gigabyte to be on the safe side.
If you intend to have the pictures blown up to a large size you will need to ensure your cameras resolution is set to maximum. Storing the wedding images on a computer or CD will mean that you can print them off whenever you want but a presentation CD can be played back on a TV.
Capturing beautiful digital wedding photography shots will depend on how much you enjoy taking pictures and whether or not the couple mean anything to you.
