There are many men in this world that don’t wear jewelry and there are some that just don’t wear it well. While there are many factors that play a part in whether a man decides to wear jewelry or not, when a man makes the decision to marry he will undoubtedly be expected to wear one of the many types of men’s wedding bands available to him. I fall into this scenario myself as I married in the early portion of 2005 and I’m also they type of man whose style of fashion doesn’t quite coalesce with any type of jewelry. To be perfectly honest I never gave much thought to wearing any type of men’s wedding band but once planning began the question was brought up during a dinner with my soon to be wife. Up to that point I had been hoping in the back of my mind that she would let me get away with wearing no wedding band what so ever. I used to use the argument that it’s the vows that are important and not the jewelry we wear. Unfortunately for me she did not buy into that argument and insisted I choose a ring.
As a life long part time musician I tended to and still do dress the part so my opinion on jewelry for me, was at that time very poor. I am allergic to silver and in addition to that the color silver just didn’t fit my look nor reflect who I was. As far as Gold was concerned it was completely out of the question as I like many other men viewed gold rings as overly feminine. Gold would have really stood out against my dark attire as well so this type of wedding band was never in consideration, though my wife would have liked me to go that route. Last but certainly not least there were many men’s diamond rings that we viewed in our search for a ring that I could stomach wearing. I see diamond jewelry as strictly something women would wear and while I am very secure in my masculinity, diamond bands didn’t match my style either.
We had been searching for a suitable wedding band for nearly four months when my then fiancée happened upon some titanium wedding bands. When she returned home excited and told me of her find, I was shocked to learn that there were wedding bands made from Titanium because as I stated previously, I had never worn jewelry so my knowledge of such things had been impaired by my lack of interest in the topic. At any rate she convinced me to return with her to the jewelers and did so in hopes of finding a ring that I wouldn’t mind wearing.
Not only did I view some very unique titanium rings but was pleasantly surprised when I found that they made men’s wedding bands not just from titanium but also into solid black bands. As much as I held out on the idea of wearing a wedding band of any type I changed my mind almost instantly. At that point I began sampling all of the various black titanium bands and ultimately settled on the simple solid black design that had caught my eye in the beginning.
Its somewhat funny when I look back at just how much resistance I put up with regards to men’s jewelry and even wedding bands without so much as even looking for one that I might have liked. Aside from my wedding ring I still haven’t warmed to the idea of men wearing jewelry but I would urge any men with a wedding on the horizon to consider going the titanium route as opposed to the traditional gold, silver, and diamonds. Titanium wedding bands look very masculine, are affordable and generally are just great looking rings. I can understand if you are opposed to wearing jewelry of any kind but looking carefully at your options might reveal something you like.
