1. The first way you can stay within your wedding budget is to pick up a composition book from a local office supply or grocery store and place detail costs of everything you plan on buying. For example, say I have a wedding budget of 8,000. I will place this amount on the first line and deduct each expense from this amount. I know the majority of my money will be spent on catering so I will say no more than 2,000 on a dress and 4,000 on catering. Based on the amount I want to spend for catering, this will let me know how many guests I can invite. Catering prices will vary from vendor to vendor depending on the food you want. If I wanted seafood I know my money will not go along way. If I was to order basic chicken and not have expensive cocktails, I will not go over budget. I will estimate that I spend an average of $20 per person. This will allow me to invite 200 guests. After subtracting the cost of the wedding dress and catering, I have $2,000 left to spend. I know I need invitations for 200 guests which would cost me $200 for some basic traditional ones. After that, I can spend $1800 for decorations. There are a number of useful tools to help you stay on budget as well: www.weddingchannel.com and http://www.infacity.com/planner.asp . You can also Google wedding budget tools. Many of these wedding budget tools are free and easy to use. On most, all you have to do is plug in the numbers to see how much you need to spend depending on the number of guests you want to invite. 2. Another way a bride can stay within budget is to hire a wedding consultant to do the dirty work for her. Wedding consultants can help you save time and money especially if they have a lot of experience and are experts in their field. They can bring a lot to the table. It can be a lot of stress on a bride when she has to do all of the wedding planning herself and on top of that try to stay on budget. A Wedding consultant fee can range anywhere from 10 to 20 percent of the total cost of the wedding. You can find wedding consultants by searching the following directories: http://afwpi.com/, http://www.infacity.com, and http://www.theknot.com
